What is Promise to Prepare? Promise to Prepare is a local campaign which seeks to make Southwestern Pennsylvania the most-prepared region in the country. We measure our preparedness by collecting "promises" made by members of our community. Our goal is to reach 10,000. We are almost halfway there! Won't you please join us today? It is easy and free, and it helps us help your community.
There are four steps to the campaign: 1) Make a Plan, 2) Build a Kit, 3) Get Trained, and 4) Volunteer. You can promise to do one, two, three, or all four of those steps. Once you make a promise, we help you fulfill it!
Why should I make a promise? When you Promise to Prepare, you help ensure that the Southwestern Pennsylvania region is strong and ready for any situation that may arise. The more proactive steps our region takes to prepare for emergencies (such as storms, fires, and floods), the less reactive we have to be when such an emergency occurs. It's important to be prepared. It could even save your life. And since making a promise is free and takes less than a minute, it's also very easy to do.

If you are experiencing trouble making a promise on this website, please e-mail your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and chosen promise to Cristina Hohmeier at hohmeierc@usa.redcross.org or call (412) 263-3162. How do you use the information you gather?
The contact information of the people who make a promise is strictly confidential. The American Red Cross uses that information for internal purposes only; the information is never given, rented, or sold to anyone else. After you promise, you may receive occasional newsletters from the American Red Cross which offer more information about how to fulfill your promise.
What is the background of the campaign?
The Red Cross is not a government agency; we rely on the generosity of the American public to fuel our vital mission of providing relief to victims of disaster and helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Promise to Prepare began as an initiative to reach out to more people in the community and to engage them in our mission. By making our region strong and prepared, the Red Cross is more equipped to fulfill our mission and our promise to the community.
The community helping the community – it’s the American story. And it’s our promise to our neighbors that count on us to be there, day in and day out, whenever and wherever an emergency may happen. The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors – down the street, across the country, and around the world.
