Volunteer Opportunities

The American Red Cross is able to carryout its mission only through the generous efforts of our volunteers who make up more than 95 percent of the Red Cross workforce and lead the way to helping communities prevent, prepare for and respond to emergency situations.

There are many ways that you can get involved with your local Red Cross. Please take the time to review our wide variety of volunteer opportunities listed below, taking into consideration your interests, skills and schedule when making your selection(s).

Disaster Services

Emergency Service volunteers provide relief assistance - help with immediate needs including food, clothing and shelter - to those affected by disasters. As an Emergency Services volunteer, you can support local disaster relief.

 

Disaster Action Team (DAT) | Disaster Mental Health Services (DMHS) | Disaster Health Services (DHS) | External Relations Volunteer | Disaster Assessment VolunteerCommunity Evacuation Center Teams

 

Military Support 

The American Red Cross offers emergency communication services to those who are currently serving in the armed forces and their families. Volunteers are placed at local VA Hospitals in a variety of roles to support our veterans.

 

Veterans Affairs Volunteer Service (VAVS)

 

Marketing and Communications

This team of Red Cross volunteers seeks to expand and deepen the public's understanding and awareness of the programs and services we provide by representing the Red Cross at community events and giving informational presentations.

 

Community Outreach and Education

 

Volunteer Support Services
This team is responsible for the recruitment, placement, training and utilization of volunteers to deliver the Red Cross mission in our community.  They engage volunteers in the organization, communicate on an ongoing basis, coordinate recognition and maintain volunteer records to ensure our volunteer led, humanitarian mission is carried out.

Daily Support Serivces

The Red Cross is looking for volunteers with professional skills and training to provide assistance to our staff during the daytime hours. Additionally, there are internships available in many different departments so students can gain professional experience while supporting our humanitarian mission.
